BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS LAUNCHES BLOCKCHAIN MANAGEMENT PLATFORM SEXTANT ON AWS MARKETPLACE FOR CONTAINERS

Comprehensive platform will radically simplify enterprise adoption of Hyperledger Sawtooth, the best emerging open source blockchain technology for business

LAS VEGAS, Nov 28 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- AWS re:Invent 2018 - Blockchain Technology Partners, the leading enterprise blockchain company, today announced the general availability of Sextant™, its powerful blockchain management platform, on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace for Containers. Sextant unlocks the value of blockchain for business. It accelerates innovation by providing enterprises with a platform that they can build upon; ensuring that they focus on business application development, not blockchain infrastructure.

“AWS Marketplace for Containers enables AWS customers to use the Amazon Elastic Container Services (ECS) console and AWS Marketplace for Containers to discover, produce, and deploy container solutions – including a comprehensive blockchain management platform from Blockchain Technology Partners,” said Dave McCann, Vice President Migration Services, AWS Marketplace and Service Catalog. “With today’s announcement, AWS Marketplace has extended its existing benefits and features to container products, with a rich discovery and search experience offering access to a curated catalog of trusted software from reputable vendors. BTP has identified Hyperledger Sawtooth as the best emerging open source blockchain technology for the enterprise on the basis of its support for Ethereum smart contracts, its pluggable consensus mechanism and its scalable, highly modular architecture. In addition, the clear separation between the network and the application tiers makes it exceptionally easy for developers to create new blockchain applications leveraging existing code and applying existing programming best practices.

Sextant is a comprehensive blockchain management platform that utilizes a carefully curated Hyperledger Sawtooth distribution – built, tested and maintained by BTP - to deliver one-click deployment of enterprise-grade Sawtooth networks. These networks can either be standalone - typically the case if a developer is testing a new blockchain application or smart contract - or join existing Sawtooth networks.

Sextant is cloud-first, and Kubernetes is the logical choice for production-grade orchestration. Under the covers Sextant automatically generates Kubernetes manifests so that Sawtooth can either be deployed on existing Kubernetes clusters or on brand new ones deployed by Sextant on AWS using Kubernetes Operations.

To try Sextant please visit our entry on AWS Marketplace for Containers.

2018 IRON DEFICIENCY DAY: A CALL TO DEVELOP A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF IRON DEFICIENCY

  • This year’s Iron Deficiency Day (26 November 2018) aims to raise awareness of the serious public health problems posed by iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia and highlight the negative impact the condition can have on its sufferers.1
  • Iron deficiency is present in one-third of the world’s population.2
  • It is most prevalent in premenopausal and pregnant women and children under five years of age.3
  • This year, the Iron Deficiency Day Symptom Checker will use animated characters to bring the varied and numerous symptoms associated with iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia to life.
ZURICH, Nov 26 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) --

Regulatory News:

THE 2018 IRON DEFICIENCY DAY IS A CALL FOR PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD TO GET IRON- INFORMED AND TO UNDERSTAND WHY IRON IS IMPORTANT FOR THE BODY AND WHAT CAN HAPPEN IF IRON LEVELS ARE NOT PROPERLY MANAGED. IRON DEFICIENCY REMAINS AN UNDER-RECOGNISED AND UNDERESTIMATED CONDITION DESPITE ITS POTENTIALLY SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES AND RELATIVELY HIGH PREVALENCE.6, 7

Although iron deficiency can affect anyone, it is most prevalent in premenopausal women, pregnant woman and children under five years of age3. Iron deficiency, left untreated, can develop into iron deficiency anaemia. The effects of iron deficiency differ from person to person, but they can be linked to an overall decline in general health and well-being.13 Even without anaemia, iron deficiency can be debilitating, exacerbate an underlying chronic disease and lead to increased morbidity and mortality.4 If the condition develops, common symptoms include fatigue,5, 9, 10 pale skin,5 brittle nails,5, 11craving non-food items such as dirt, clay and ice5, 12 and an inability to concentrate.9, 13 However, the symptoms of iron deficiency can manifest in different ways; they are hard to pinpoint and can be associated with a number of other health conditions.4,5 In children specifically, iron deficiency can significantly impair cognitive and motor development.14

Not recognising the symptoms of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia is often the biggest contributor to not seeking – and receiving – a diagnosis.4 Learning to identify the symptoms is an important step towards finding the diagnosis. The new Iron Deficiency Day Symptom Checker will use animations to elucidate the effects of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia in order to educate people in recognising the condition.

Dr. Diana Mansour, Consultant in Community Gynaecology and Reproductive Health Care and Head of Sexual Health Services at New Croft Centre in Newcastle, United Kingdom, said: “Iron deficiency affects so many women across the world and can have a significant impact on their health and quality of life. Maintaining iron levels is particularly important in pregnant women, as it can affect not only a woman’s health, but also the development of her unborn child. It is vital that we encourage women to recognise the symptoms of iron deficiency so that they can talk to their healthcare providers and start to access the support they need to manage their iron levels effectively.”

Prof Michal Matysiak, Department of Paediatrics, Haematology and Oncology, Medical University of Warsaw, Poland stresses the point that there’s a real need to raise awareness of the serious consequences of iron deficiency. “Even though it can have a major impact on a child’s development, iron deficiency remains underdiagnosed and undertreated. This disease is the number one nutritional deficiency globally. Greater awareness of iron deficiency and an understanding of its symptoms would help correct that problem.”

Vifor Pharma Group is a global pharmaceuticals company. It aims to become the global leader in iron deficiency, nephrology and cardio-renal therapies. Iron Deficiency Day takes place every year on 26 November and is dedicated to:
  • raising awareness of the serious public health problem iron deficiency poses.1
  • highlighting the significant impact iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia can have on the lives of those living with it.1
  • helping people recognise the common and often overlooked symptoms.
To help people around the world get iron informed, Iron Deficiency Day 2018 has developed a range of information and materials to help people understand iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia and a Symptom Checker to help people recognise the numerous but varied symptoms. The Symptom Checker lists the main symptoms associated with iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia and brings them to life with an animated character, to further explain each symptom.

Iron deficiency is very common present in one-third of people around the world.2 It is most prevalent in premenopausal and pregnant women and children under the age of five.3 In Europe for example, iron deficiency affects up to 33% of pre-menopausal women, up to 77% of pregnant women, and up to 48% of children3. Iron deficiency is also frequently associated with chronic inflammatory diseases such as chronic heart failure, chronic kidney disease and irritable bowel disease.4

Iron is required throughout the body. It is essential for the production of red blood cells, and ensuring that the heart and skeletal muscles can function effectively.15 Iron also plays a vital role in fighting off infections and illness,16 maintaining energy levels16 and normal brain function.17 When the body’s available iron stores are low (iron deficiency) it can impact almost all aspects of life such as metabolism, mental and physical health, work productivity and even sexual function.5, 17The World Health Organization states that iron deficiency can lead to a reduction of 30% in physical work output.18

JAPAN-INDIA COLLABORATION YIELDS A NOVEL TREATMENT METHOD FOR MALE URETHRAL STRICTURE

GN Corporation to collaborate with JBM Inc., to work towards an approval for BEES-HAUS

TOKYO, Nov 26 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- A novel and relatively pain-less treatment method for male urethral stricture using patients own buccal mucosal cells has been reported as successful in four out of six patients. The study has been published in International Journal of Urology (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/iju.13852) which is the official journal of Japanese Urological Association, is a result of collaboration between Japanese biomaterial technology and an Indian urologist Dr Suryaprakash Vaddi.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here:https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20181125005123/en/

Majority of male urethral strictures reported in the developed world are due to iatrogenic causes (BPH surgery, prostate cancer treatment). In the developing countries, the major causes are inflammation and trauma. In 30% patients, the cause is unknown. The conventional treatment involves either endoscopic intervention or open surgery. In surgical treatment, under general anesthesia, patient’s Buccal mucosa is harvested and used as a patch to enlarge the narrowed urethra. In both methods, restenosis occurs in up to 40% of patients. In our method called as BEES-HAUS (Buccal epithelium Expanded and Encapsulated in Scaffold – Hybrid Approach for Urethral Stricture), we harvested a small piece of the buccal tissue and after culturing the cells in the lab without animal protein, embedded in scaffold and transplanted through endoscopy. Both harvesting and transplant doesn’t require general anesthesia, making the procedure relatively easier to the clinician and less painful to the patient. Going by the data, this procedure has a potential to help approximately 30,000 patients every year in Japan. In the U.S, total annual expenditure due to stricture is about 200 Million US Dollars, said Dr Vaddi, the lead author of the paper.

GN Corporation, which has coordinated the interaction between Japanese biomaterial scientists and clinicians in India through NCRM (Nichi-In Centre for Regenerative Medicine), has applied for a patent for this invention and has signed a MoU for collaboration with JBM Inc (www.jbmed.net), Tokyo, Japan, for exploring opportunities to make this an approved clinical solution in the future following the regulatory protocols as per Japanese ministry of health.

The capital of China has introduced an array of policies including special funds for awarding inbound tourism, funds for MICE, shopping tax rebates on departure for overseas tourists and 144-hour transit visa exemption to propel inbound tourism growth.

With the international events to be hosted including the International Horticulture Exhibition in 2019, the World Leisure Conference in 2020 and the Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympic Games in 2022, new opportunities will be available for Beijing's inbound tourism development as it also willing to strengthen cooperation and share opportunities with domestic and overseas partners.

A.M. Best upgrades credit ratings of Bermuda's Evergreen Insurance

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (Bernama) – A.M. Best has upgraded the Financial Strength Rating to A (excellent) from A- (excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating to ‘a’ from ‘a-’ of Evergreen Insurance Co. Ltd. (EICL) Bermuda and the outlook is stable.

The ratings reflect EICL’s balance sheet strength, which A.M. Best said as strong, as well as its strong operating performance, neutral business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management.

According to a statement, as a pure captive of Evergreen Group, EICL underwrites mainly marine, aviation and property risks related to the group’s operations.

The upgrade of EICL’s ratings reflect the improvement in the quality of its capital and liquidity position following the full repayment of the loan-back to its parent company in December 2017, coupled with the company’s prudent dividend policy over the short to intermediate term.

In addition, the company’s risk-adjusted capitalization, as measured by Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR), remained at a robust level, supported by low underwriting leverage, prudent reinsurance arrangements with a diversified panel of financially sound reinsurers and a conservative reserving practice.

Despite EICL’s small absolute capital size, A.M. Best expects the company to grow its capital and surplus gradually through profit retentions while maintaining strong liquidity over the short to intermediate term.

A.M. Best is a global rating agency and information provider with a unique focus on the insurance industry. More details at www.ambest.com

VISTAJET CELEBRATED AS MOST INNOVATIVE BUSINESS AVIATION COMPANY AND BEST OPERATOR FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE TIME

VistaJet honoured with two AsBAA Icons of Aviation Awards 2018
  • VistaJet receives two prestigious awards at this year’s AsBAA Icons of Aviation Awards 2018
  • Adventures in the Sky, the company’s Children Program, made it the Most Innovative Company 2018
  • Exceptional services and the most rigorous safety and operational standards earn VistaJet the best operator title for third consecutive year.
HONG KONG, Nov 15 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- VistaJet, the first and only global business aviation company, received top honors at the Asian Business Aviation Association’s Icons of Aviation Awards 2018. As well as being named the Most Innovative Company, VistaJet also earned the title of best operator for the third consecutive year. Presented by the Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA), the awards represent the votes of 150 of its members, including business aviation operators, brokers, corporations, and peers in the aviation industry from across Asia.

The best operator award recognizes VistaJet’s industry-first achievements and exceptional operational standards. With over 70 consistently branded super-mid and long-range aircraft, VistaJet has flown to 1,600 airports in 187 countries, or 96% of the world. In the first half of 2018, VistaJet’s passenger count increased by 18% and flight hours rose by 23% compared to the previous year in Asia. As an indication of the rapid growth in the region in the past year, these figures rose to 37% and 33% respectively by the third quarter.

Always pioneering new industry initiatives, in 2018 VistaJet launched The Jet Traveler Report, the first customer-centric analysis on the private aviation industry. VistaJet also oversaw a number of major global initiatives this year, including the partnership with British Polo Day for their 2018 worldwide tournament, and the global tour of The Collection of Peggy and David Rockefeller. The sale conducted by Christie’s totaled over $832 million - the most significant auction in history, entirely dedicated to raising funds for philanthropic causes.

The Most Innovative Company Award recognizes creativity and innovation in the business aviation industry. In 2018 the company launched the most extensive children’s private travel program, Adventures in the Sky. Created for passengers aged one to 16, the program turns cabins into playrooms and party venues. VistaJet has also taken the unprecedented step of training all of its Cabin Hostesses at Norland College, a prestigious childcare institute specializing in early education. Through a better knowledge of child development and behaviors, the crew can better understand family dynamics and recognize the specific needs of travelling families.

Leona Qi, VistaJet’s President of Asia & US said: “It’s truly an honor to receive recognition for VistaJet’s continual effort on delivering exceptional cabin services. With a team of over 1,000 aviation specialists of 50 nationalities, every single flight is performed smoothly and to the highest safety standards, anytime, anywhere around the globe. Innovation is at the core of VistaJet’s values; by thinking ahead of customer requests, we are committed to creating enriching experiences through creative strategies and initiatives.”

“AsBAA added the Innovation Award in 2018 to recognize and encourage technological advancements and creative “out of the box” thinking in our industry. VistaJet has achieved exactly that with its new children’s services. The entertainment, catering and Alice in Wonderland themed package for children is inspired. The presentation of the concept was cleverly executed in the video and we are delighted to present the first ever Most Innovative Company Award to its very deserved winner, VistaJet.  We hope that more member companies will be inspired by VistaJet’s example going forward.  We also recognize VistaJet for winning the Best AOC Charter Operator Award, as voted for by AsBAA members. Congratulations to the team at VistaJet,” said Jenny Lau, AsBAA Chairperson.

In 2017, VistaJet received the biggest equity valuation ever for a private aviation company, exceeding US$2.5 billion, solidifying the company as one of Europe’s top five – and Malta’s first – Unicorn. With its strong financial standing and ongoing support from its members, VistaJet continues to expand its business through a broad network of partnerships across Asia and beyond.

COX’S BAZAR, Bangladesh, Nov 15 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- A 100-bed capacity hospital opened in Cox’s Bazar district in Bangladesh. It is expected to serve 140,000 Rohingya refugees based in the Kutupalong camp.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here:https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20181114005631/en/

This round-the-clock medical facility, built and managed by M̩decins Sans Fronti̬res (MSF) РDoctors without Borders with the support of Sharjah-based international humanitarian organisation, The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF), aims to treat 7,200 people in its first year.

Part of TBHF’s leading humanitarian efforts to reach out globally to vulnerable communities, this hospital project was supported by AED 3 million donation from Sharjah Media Corporation (SMC), through its public fundraising initiative on healthcare projects, and will offer much-needed relief to the long-suffering Rohingya, including pregnant women, infants and young children.

The hospital is equipped with intensive care units, paediatric and maternity wards, as well as outpatient departments, including support services for sexual assault victims.

The facility also houses a water purification system that serves the area’s residents and is equipped with a hi-tech warning system to detect infectious diseases and respond to and control outbreaks. The hospital seeks to strengthen the area’s current infrastructure in responding to emergencies in the wake of epidemiological conditions or natural disasters.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, humanitarian envoy of the foundation and chairman of SMC inaugurated the hospital last Friday.

He said: “The funding for the hospital was collected through public fundraising initiative for healthcare projects and goes to show the UAE’s community integrated effort to spreading humanitarian messages worldwide.

“The hospital mirrors solemn humanitarian bonds that connect the UAE community to the rest of the world.”

More than a year into the crisis in Cox’s Bazar, the number of Rohingya refugees has reached nearly one million. The scale of influx into Cox’s Bazar district and the scarcity of resources has resulted in a critical humanitarian emergency, exceeding the coping capacity of the local communities and systems.
