Mediu Programmes Accredited By MQA
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) has stressed that no revocation of accreditation of Al Madinah International University (Mediu) programmes has taken place as claimed by a local newspaper recently.
MQA, in a statement, said the Mediu programmes had undergone a detailed and comprehensive evaluation process involving evaluation by experts in the related fields appointed by MQA before the programmes were given MQA's accreditation.
"Generally, MQA has evaluated the level of quality of 169 Mediu programmes since 2010. As at October, 88 programmes had undergone the accreditation evaluation process and 81 more programmes had been given full accreditation.
"Of the total, 70 Mediu programmes have received MQA accreditation and registered in the Malaysia Qualifications Register," said the statement.
MQA said every application by Higher Education (PPT) Programme Provider evaluated by MQA would undergo a detailed and comprehensive quality assurance and accreditation programme process.
"MQA will not compromise in the aspect of quality evaluation and every programme must comply with the need of quality assurance based on the Malaysian Qualifications Framework," he said.
As such, MQA urged the public to conduct a check of the programmes offered by PPT via the Malaysian Qualification Register portal at www2.mqa.gov.my/mqr or to check via mobile applications at myMQR whether at Android (Google Play), iOS (Apple Store applications) or Windows (Windows application) to avoid any confusion.

It also features a document management platform, which allow users to set document issuance privileges within any organisation, track usage and revoke access to its use as necessary.
The Botoseal solution comprises three interconnected modules of secure holographic seal, Smartsign application and Verifier application.
It replaces the conventional seal with a chip-embedded holographic seal, offering unique security and physical attributes that prevent replication and hacking.
This seal is tamper-evident and provides absolute security on documents.
Botosoft Technologies, a security solutions company, said the Smartsign application allows the signing of digital documents, while the Verifier, can verify document authenticity, as well as give users access to tamper-evident digital copies of documents.

HELSINKI, Dec 15 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- The City of Helsinki has commissioned two next-generation 3D city models: a smart, semantic city information model and a visually high-quality reality mesh model. These models are based on the most recent measurement, modelling and city information model methods developed over the past ten years. Helsinki is the first city in the world to simultaneously utilise both 3D city models. They are available as open data.

Malaysia To Host 84th Ifla World Library And Information Congress 2018
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will host the 84th International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) in 2018.

Only 30 percent of respondents to the survey - conducted with consumers in the US, UK and Australia - claimed awareness of any security weakness in mobile phone networks.
Respondents provided a list of reasons for their security concerns including vulnerabilities in operating systems (nine percent), apps (six percent), operator data leaks (three percent) and vulnerabilities in Bluetooth, WiFi, and voicemail hacking. However, only six percent indicated specific awareness of vulnerabilities in the technology of the telecoms network itself.

UMW SUFFERS PRE-TAX LOSS OF RM121.62 MLN IN Q3
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- UMW Holdings Bhd suffers a pre-tax loss of
RM121.62 million in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2016 compared a pre-tax
profit of RM72.24 million in the same quarter a year ago.
Revenue fell to RM2.86 billion from RM3.53 billion previously, it said in a
filing to Bursa Malaysia here today.
"The lower revenue was due to the challenging economic environment in the
oil and gas (O&G) industry coupled with the weak ringgit which had impacted the
group's results," it said.
In a statement, President/Group Chief Executive Officer, Badrul Feisel Abdul
Rahim, said the group's performance was hit by the present downturn in the O&G
industry, softer local demand for motor vehicles and the weakening ringgit.
The O&G (unlisted) segment registered a lower revenue of RM58.4 million in
the current quarter from RM70.0 million in the same quarter of 2015 due to the
impact of continued low oil prices, he said.
Badrul said the moror vehicle segment's revenue fell to RM2.26 billion from
RM2.60 billion due to soft market sentiments and intense competition from other
car makers.
The equipment segment posted a lower revenue of RM342.8 million against
RM474.8 million due to the decline in equipment sales resulting from the
slowdown in the mining sector and stiff competition in the construction sector, he said.
He said the sales performance in Myanmar was weighed down by the continued
restriction imposed on the import of heavy equipment by the government of Myanmar.
The manufacturing and engineering segment recorded a lower revenue of
RM144.6 million in the current quarter compared with RM183.8 million in the
previous year s corresponding quarter, he said.
Badrul said the challenges and uncertainties in the current business
environment might add pressure for asset impairment in the last quarter of the
year, hence, might adversely impact the group s results.
"Nevertheless, the management will take appropriate measures to contain
cost, increase operational efficiency and continue to improve business
potentials," he said.

Suria KLCC, Alamanda Aim To Raise RM10,000 For Underprivileged Paediatric Patients
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Suria KLCC and Alamanda shopping malls aimed to raise RM10,000 as funds for underprivileged paediatric patients getting treatment in government hospitals and their families.
Suria KLCC chief executive officer Andrew Brien said the fund would be raised through the sales of gift boxes worth RM10 each from November 26 to December 26 and channel to a non-profit organisation, ANGSANAcare.

of the elderly who are 60 years old and above in Malaysia is increasing
gradually from standing about 7.9% in 2016, to an estimation of 15% in 2030.

In a statement today, MTC said, the mission, from Nov 26-Dec 6, 2016, was part of the council's Raw Material Augmenting Supply programme.
The delegation, comprising eight timber-based companies, would be led by MTC Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Richard Yu, it said.
"The delegation will source for tropical timber products as well as plantation timber products for downstream processing in Peninsular Malaysia," it said.
MTC CEO, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Nik, said the council had always looked for new sources of timber supply for local manufacturers.
"We also want to introduce new timber species in the market, which can be used as an alternative supply to raw materials and to value-add and diversify our product range," he said.
Abdul Rahim said the delegation would also visit factories to learn about timber processing practices and seeking new business opportunities in both countries.
