ACCA ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL ACCA RECOGNISED TUTOR TRAINING ACADEMY WITH INSPIRE

KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Bernama) -- ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) launched its first ACCA Recognised Tutor Training Academy with the appointment of Inspire Professional Academy (INSPIRE) as an independent training centre to develop and nurture lecturers and individuals to become effective teachers of the ACCA Qualification.

Speaking at the launch, Leong Soo Yee, Asia Pacific director of ACCA, said: “This initiative is an answer to the Government’s call to train more professional accountants to support Malaysia’s progressive economy. We strongly believe it’s essential to have the right number and right quality of tutors to support the rapidly growing number of students wishing to study ACCA and become professional accountants.”

Soo Yee pointed out that the launch of this academy comes at a critical period when the momentum of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is growing. She referred to the potential talent mobility as a result of the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) on accountancy services, which calls for ASEAN countries to mutually recognise accountants with the right skills, qualifications, and work experience to work in any of the member countries, subject to domestic regulations.

“If the AEC’s idea for free movement of skilled labour is realised, this will necessitate the need to elevate the quality of Malaysia’s accountants to remain competitive. ACCA has always strived to ensure that our students are work-ready and able to add value from the day they start employment. And, high quality tuition is crucial to enable this,” Soo Yee explained.

This new ACCA Recognised Tutor Training Academy, which is ACCA’s first in the world, will set new standards in tutor training, using a combination of online digital materials and face-to-face teaching. Participants of this training programme will learn the teaching style and methodology for professional qualifications, which require more strategic and practical application.

Lee Sik Weng, founder of INSPIRE, said: “Developing tutors who already have the technical knowledge with practical application skills and know-hows will enhance the employability and increase the success rates of Malaysian talents. We’re excited to work with ACCA on its first ACCA Recognised Tutor Training Academy and be a part of the national agenda to groom more professional accountants.”

The Academy, which will run a range of programmes to take account of different levels of experience and knowledge, will be open to accounting and finance lecturers, and to ACCA affiliates and members, or members of other accounting bodies recognised by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) wishing to pursue a career in teaching ACCA. It is also open to existing ACCA tutors currently teaching in colleges or learning providers in Malaysia who wish to further improve their skills.

Soo Yee added: “With the recently announced developments to the ACCA Qualification based on employer needs and the introduction of the Strategic Professional case study, we are also looking to provide additional support for existing ACCA tutors before the introduction of the new syllabus. So this academy is also about ensuring tutors in Malaysia are with us on the qualification development journey.”

It is intended that the Academy will increase the talent pool of trained, effective ACCA tutors in Malaysia, and enhance the skills of those already teaching the ACCA Qualification.

“Ultimately, we seek to ensure the education network has a sufficient supply of quality tutors ready to nurture the next generation of business leaders,” Soo Yee concluded.

Upon completion of the programme, participants will receive certificates in recognition of their achievements, proving they have undertaken training to develop and teach students who will become the professional accountants Malaysia and the world needs.

Registration is now open for the first session of the ACCA Recognised Tutor Training Academy, which will begin in June 2017. For more info, please visit www.inspireacademy.com.my
