Indonesia recognised in search and rescue service

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- Indonesia has been given recognition in conducting search and rescue (SAR) service, according to its National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

Head of Basarnas, Air Marshal M. Syaugi said the success of SAR operation is determined by factors such as speed, accuracy and competencies or human resources.

These factors are the mandatories for all personnel to be able to respond to the challenges of the search and rescue service quickly, accurately and safely, a statement said.

Basarnas plays a critical role during all periods of disaster, conducting effective SAR operations efficiently, safely and securely, anytime and anywhere as the agency will be the forefront of any ongoing natural disaster in saving lives and preventing more loss.

The agency is also experienced in investigations and security measures in handling airplane accidents such as the crash of Lion Air Boeing 737- 800 in the Bali sea on April 2013 and Sukhoi Superjet crash in Bogor, West Java in May 2012.

Basarnas has also conducted continuous training programs to cope with the accident risk and increases the availability of SAR equipment.

With the increased responsibilities assumed by Basarnas, it is expected that the fulfillment of SAR facilities and infrastructure can be adequately implemented. More information at http://basarnas.go.id.
