REVIVING THE CHRISTMAS KETTLING TRADITION

The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettling Charity Sale kicks off this weekend at Citta Mall

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- The Salvation Army Malaysia will kickstart its annual fundraising campaign, Christmas Kettling, in December 2019 across various states throughout the country at the local communities that it serves in, including Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Kuching.  A well-loved tradition that started way back in 1891 in San Francisco by an officer from The Salvation Army, Christmas Kettling is a time to remember those who are less fortunate and to spread the joy of hope and love, especially during the Christmas season.

From 7th to 16th December for two consecutive weeks from 10am to 10pm daily, Christmas Kettling will be present at Citta Mall (Ground Floor Concourse), Ara Damansara. A charity sale will be held concurrently whereby memorabilia, limited edition merchandise and many other small gifts will be sold with the aim to raise funds to support The Salvation Army’s efforts to care for people in need in the community. The Salvation Army will also be collecting pre-loved books at the charity sale booth whereby the public can donate books that are still in good condition.

Chief Secretary of The Salvation Army Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar Territory, Lieutenant Colonel Garth Niemand said, “For 80 years, The Salvation Army has been making its presence felt in Malaysia through our network of social services and programmes which care for the vulnerable and underprivileged in the local communities that we serve in. The difference that we can make in the lives of our beneficiaries largely depends on the support that we receive, and we hope that the public continues to support our fundraising efforts through Christmas Kettling.”

The Salvation Army hopes to raise RM50,000 from Christmas Kettling. For this current financial year, its projected Social Fund expenditure is RM4.6 million and The Salvation Army needs to raise over RM2.2 million in donations. For every dollar spent from its social fund in FY2017, 86 cents was spent on its social programmes to help its beneficiaries.
